Representatives of Christ

King James Daily Bible Study Devotional
Message TitleRepresentatives of Christ
Date: Saturday April 14, 2012Today's Chapters1 Kings 16-18

Hello My Friend,

As Christian's we are representatives of Christ, that means we have a big responsibility and challenge to show those who live in the world just how important it is to know Jesus Christ. On top of that we are to be examples for them to follow so they can see that putting their faith in Him is more profitable than anything anyone can ever receive here on earth. Our attitude, words, and actions must declare to all that God alone is our true and infallible Source of all our needs. “
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand...And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus...Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you...Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account...But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:5,7,9,17,19.

Not one king from the Northern Kingdom followed God, in fact, each king became more ruthless and evil then the last. After reading about one wicked king after another we learn about Ahab. Ahab, was one of the most powerful kings ever to rule the Northern Kingdom, he was also married to one of the wickedest women of all time, Jezebel. “
And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him. And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him. And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.” - 1 Kings 16:30-33.

As a result of his marriage to Jezebel, who promoted the worship of Baal, Ahab allowed her influence to rule the kingdom and introduced her worship of Baal as the religion of the nation. This was followed by fierce persecution of those worshiping God and the killing of His prophets. As representatives of Christ, we are often persecuted as well, you can talk about God all day long and people will agree to some extent, the reason being, they chose the god they want to believe. The second you mention Jesus, it is as if time bomb was set off, they are ready to attack. Why? Jesus is God, He is truth, people hate the convictions that truth brings them. “
Blessed arethey which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great isyour reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” - Matthew 5:10-12.

The people knew that if anyone got caught worshiping God they would be executed, ordered by Jezebel herself. Regardless, there were a few who stood by their faith, continued to worship only God, boldly declaring they would only worship the one and only True God. Elijah, a prophet, who lived in the Southern Kingdom, was sent by God to warn Ahab of the drought that was about to take place because of the wickedness that he brought upon and allowed his people to partake in. “
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word. And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.” - 1 Kings 17:1-4.

There indeed was no rain for three years, Elijah's faith in God kept him fed and from dehydration while the drought overtook the land. While we cannot avoid being in the tribulations of the world as a result of our leaders provoking God we do not have to fear nor worry what will come of us because God always provides for and takes care of His people. Jesus reminds us, “
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” - Matthew 6:25,26.

Another man that we learn of who stood by his faith in God was Ahab's governor, Obadiah. Upon looking for grass to feed the livestock, Obadiah ran into Elijah, who had a request of him, tell Ahab, I want to meet with him. “
And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me? As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not. And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here...And Elijah said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him to day. So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah.” - 1 Kings 18:9-11,15,16..

Obadiah feared for his life, he knew that if he went to Ahab and told him that Elijah was in town that he would face execution for even talking to him. However, he faced his fears and Elijah promised him that everything would be fine. The reason why Elijah wanted to meet with Ahab was to challenge him. “
And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim. Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.” - 1 Kings 18:17-19.

Elijah gathered up all the people and challenged the four hundred and fifty false prophets to call on Baal to prove that their god existed. For a full day Jezebel's prophets frantically called upon the name of Baal with no success. Elijah mocked them, they even went as far as cutting themselves, hollering and screaming for Baal to answer them. Then Elijah called all the people to him, “
And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down...And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood...And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.” - 1 Kings 18:30,33,36-39.

Elijah illustrates how the power of God is released when we trust, remain faithful to Him, are obedient to His Word, and simply ask Him for the things we need. As representatives of Christ, God often allows us to face unusual and difficult situations in order to show the world that He is the only living and Almighty God. We can overcome them all by our trust, faith, and simply believing in our Lord Jesus Christ. “
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” - John 14:1,12-14.
Today's Psalm: 118:6 - “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
Today's Proverb: 8:35 - “For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
Today's Prayer: God, As I try to live my life the way You want me to live there are many difficulties, people, challenges, and struggles that are constantly trying to take my eyes off You and on them. God, I know that all things will come to pass and that You will lead me to great things by remaining faithful to You. Lord, give me faith that not only moves mountains, but crushes them, help me to become completely dependent upon You for everything. Give me Your strength, wisdom, and guidance to get through this day trusting, believing, and knowing that You will give me everything I need and desire. I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Enjoy the rest of your day/night. God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina

Discerning Truth

King James Daily Bible Study Devotional
Message TitleDiscerning Truth
Date: Friday April 13, 2012Today's Chapters1 Kings 13-15

Hello My Friend,

The biggest threat to a person seeking to know Christ and a true Christian is a false Christian, one who appears godly and religious on the surface, but when we are not looking is more sinful and wicked than those who live in the world. The Bible says,
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world...Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error...Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.” - 1 John 4:1,4-6,13.

Once God divided the kingdom it did not take long for both sides to start doing evil in God's sight. First, we learn that Jeroboam brought idol worship and religious ceremonies similar to feasts of God into the Northern Kingdom. He sent a young prophet to warn Jeroboam to stop causing his people to sin through these abominable acts. However, it wasn't Jeroboam that fell into a trap, it was the man of God.
And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward. And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place: For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest...Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father...And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am. Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread...He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.” - 1 Kings 13:7-9,11,14,15,18.

The young man died that day because he chose to listen to the false prophet rather than God, this is an illustration of salvation. There is only one way to be saved from death and that is through Jesus Christ alone, this information is available to us straight from God's mouth through His Word. God's Word supersedes any persons words and if any person is trusting in their religion or any other additions other than accepting Christ alone for their salvation will end up like this young man. “
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” - 1 John 5:11-13.

God consistently tried to get Jeroboam to take idol worshiping out of Israel, but he refused, he
did not want to serve the Almighty God on his terms. However, being one of God's people he knew that the Almighty God was the only one who could truly make things happen. So, when his son got severely ill he sent his wife to seek counsel from a man of God in the Southern Kingdom. “At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick. And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people...Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel, And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes; But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:..Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.” - 1 King 14:1,2,7-9,12.

Whether we keep an account of God's mercies upon us or not, God does and He will set them in order before us, if we are ungrateful, to our greater confusion. Ahijah foretells the speedy death of the child then sick, in mercy to him. He was the only one in the house of Jeroboam who worshiped God. To show the power, mercy, and grace of God He will save some out of the worst families, removing them from the evil to come in there familes, to the good to come in a better world. “
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” - Philippians 1:20,21.
Now, in the Southern Kingdom, Rehoboam, Solomon's son also led the nation to sin, first, he followed in his fathers footsteps by allowing the false gods to remain in the kingdom, but he even allowed abdominal acts to take place, which Solomon never allowed, making him and the nation to sin even more than the Northern Kingdom. “And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done. For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree. And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.” - 1 Kings 14:22-24.

Just as one leader can bring evil upon a nation a godly leader can bring good upon a nation. Asa, would be the first godly king in the Southern Kingdom since David. He not only got rid of the abominations, but the idols as well, one of which his own mother made. “
And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron.” - 1 Kings 15:11-13.

We have a choice, live God's way or live our way, choosing God's way always leads to peace, choosing our way always leads to suffering. The only way we can know that we are doing things God's way is by knowing God's way. People can tell you what they think is God's way, but the only way to know for sure is getting in His book and finding out. If you are saved the Holy Spirit lives inside of you, that means He can teach you how to understand His Word and to discern whether or not someone who claims to be a Christian is living and teaching truth or just a big liar. “
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” - 2 Timothy 2:15,16.
Today's Psalm: 30:15 - “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Today's Proverb: 4:10 - “Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
Today's Prayer: God, I truly want to live in Your will, I do not always understand what Your will is, but as I learn and grow by reading Your Word and getting around those who seek the same I know I can get there. Thank You for Your mercy, grace, and patience to wait for me to learn and grow in Your will. Lead me and guide me in your will and ways. Let me be careful and mindful of false men of God seeking to cause me to go against Your Word and ways and cause me to fall into sin. Also, open my heart to understand the things that I may be doing on my own that goes against Your will and ways. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Enjoy the rest of your day/night. God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina

Failure To Succeed

King James Daily Bible Study Devotional
Message TitleFailure To Succeed
Date: Thursday April 12, 2012Today's Chapters1 Kings 10-12

Hello My Friend,

Successful people of the world will tell you that they made themselves a success and give glory to themselves for their success. Successful Christian's will tell you that God made them a success and will give Him the glory for their success. However, if Christian's are not careful, they too can lose sight of God in the midst of their success and if they do they can be sure that their success will fail them. “
If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.” - Malachi 2:2.
King Solomon was the most successful king of all time, he not only possessed great wisdom, he was wealthy and looked highly upon by the rest of the world. Solomon had kings and queens from all over the world coming to see the king and place where the God they only heard about was sending so many blessings. Solomon got a visit from the queen of Sheba. “And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom. Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard. Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom. Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice.” - 1 Kings 10:6-9.

We may not realize it, but a Christian not only has the audience of the world checking them out, but other Christian's. Those who do not really follow Christ are just itching to find out if we are as godly as we make ourselves out to be. That is why it is important as a true Christian to keep our sight on God at all times, walking with Christ daily. Even if we appear to look like we are doing something ungodly they will use it against us to make themselves look better. How can we overcome this? By keeping our sight on God. “
Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:17-23.

Solomon did not keep his eyes on God, in fact, he disregarded several of the warnings that God gave him prior to his great amount of sacrifices and prayer. He eventually began to do everything he was not to do as king, and quickly fell from God. How did he fall? Women. If you thought David had a lot of women, it is nothing compared to the number of wives Solomon had, 700 to be exact, and 300 back ups too. The bigger problem was that many of them had different religious backgrounds, which in turn brought Solomon to following their false gods.
But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.” - 1 Kings 11:1-4.
Before the end of Solomon's life he realized that his pleasure driven life was his downfall, he penned down the words of the Book of Ecclesiastes upon coming to the conclusion that everything he did to please himself was vanity and brings a troublesome heart. “There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God. For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.” - Ecclesiastes 2:24,26.
Solomon's corrupting influences of his wealth, worldly policies, many pagan wives, and ignoring the Word of God brought not only grief to him at the end of his life, it brought a great division in the house of David. After his death, his son Rehoboam inherited the kingdom, he foolishly took the advice of his friends, ten of the eleven tribes in Israel rejected him as king, following a ruthless man named Jeroboam. “So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day. And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only. And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon...Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.” - 1 Kings 12:19-21,24.

God put a stop to the fight, stating that brothers should not be fighting against brothers, and that He caused the division to take place. Even today God remains to keep the tribes divided and only a few Jews follow Jesus Christ, yet we are still encouraged to stop the fighting as we are also brothers with the Jews and eventually we will all be one with Christ. “
And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel...After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb...For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.” -Revelation 7:4,9,10,17. Praise God!
Today's Psalm: 29:2 - “Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
Today's Proverb: 28:12 - “When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.
Today's Prayer: God, You deserve the glory for every skill, talent, good deed, and success that I reach through them all. I know that at times I have gotten so busy with the work You bless me with that I fail to acknowledge that You are the cause of it all. Forgive me for putting my work above you and not thanking You for all of it, even the work that I have not been compensated for. Lord, let me not take my eyes off of You for a second, that is all it takes to get me in trouble. Keep me in Your Word and praying daily, help me to muffle all the noises in my head that keep me from hearing You when You speak to me. By Your strength and guidance I know I can be a success and remain successful in all that I do. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Enjoy the rest of your day/night. God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
