Genesis: God Will Supply

KJB Daily Devotion – Following Jesus Through Every Chapter
Date: Saturday, January 16, 2016
Chapters: Genesis 46-48
Message: Genesis: God Will Supply

Hello My Friend,

Socialism, A way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies. If you were not aware, our nations are one by one being bought and sold to our governments. I remember growing up into poverty, my mother did the only thing she could do to take care, she went on welfare. I swear the things we went through just to get help were so ridiculous I swore I would work three jobs before I ask anything from the government again. Now, I am not judging those who help, but I am telling you that you need to be careful cause the more they give you the more of your life they take. If we put our faith and trust in God He will provide for us more than what the government ever can. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:19.

Socialism does not just happen overnight, it is well planned, it can take years for their plan to take action. The Bible is a great resource for learning just how important it is that we seek help from God and let Him guide us rather than put our trust in the government. Today, we learn how socialism starts, for seventeen years Jacob thought his son was dead, you could imagine the surprise when his sons reveal to him that he is still alive. Now, a hundred and thirty years old, Jacob brought his entire family, sixty-six men, women, and children into Egypt.

And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac. And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I. And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation: I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes. And Jacob rose up from Beersheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him: And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.” - Genesis 46:1-6,29.

and I will also surely bring thee up again:” Our time here on earth is not permanent, it's only temporary, God has brought us here to help increase His nation (kingdom), and when He has finished His purpose for us He will bring where us home. Praise God! “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” - 2 Corinthians 4:17,18.

Now, the famine is hitting hard, both the Egyptians and Israelites soon found out that money and possessions could not do anything for them. However, They literally sold themselves to Pharaoh just to get food, including the Egyptians.

And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth. And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail. And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year. When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands: Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate. And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh's.” - Genesis 47:15-20.

buy us and our land for bread,” It was during this time that all of the people lost their entire freedom because they were afraid. Did you ever hear the commercial on the radio about buying gold or silver because it never loses value? As if gold or silver can save you during a famine? People who live in the world have the mentality that money and possessions can save them, but fail to realize it is worthless. Things cannot bring water when there is none to take from the lakes, it cannot bring food when there is no water to make things grow, it cannot keep us from dying, and it certainly cannot keep us from hell. When we put our faith and trust in God, and let Him guide us He will provide. God always provides a way when there is no way! “But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” - Luke 12:5-7.

God did keep His promise to Jacob, in only seventeen years, the Israelites did multiply, in fact, there were so many that they outnumbered the Egyptians. Jacob lived seventeen years after he arrived in Egypt, far beyond his own expectations, he was nearing the end of his life when he blessed Joseph and his sons. In blessing them, Jacob gives the bigger blessing to Manasseh, his younger son.

And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head. And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head. And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh. And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers. Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.” - Genesis 48:17-22.

but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.” Isn't it amazing that in the midst of our own famines God us with us. Amazingly, God will always take care of His children, even when it seems like He is not there. He is always, always with us and preparing the way for future generations through us, but many will fall captive to the world because they did not put their faith in Him. Sometimes, famines do happen, we lose things we were so sure of, but that is where faith comes. When we have done everything in our own ability, that is when God will show His ability. “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.” - Psalm 37:3-5,7,23,24.

Today's Prayer: God, You have placed us on a journey of faith where we learn to trust You for all that we have need of. I'm so glad I learned to trust You with my life, now, help me learn to trust You in every area of my life until You bring me home. Through all the circumstances I face, even when things look hopeless, I know You are there and will always take care of me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina

Genesis: Confession Is The Best Option

KJB Daily Devotion – Following Jesus Through Every Chapter
Date: Friday, January 15, 2016
Chapters: Genesis 43-45
Message: Genesis: Confession Is The Best Option

Hello My Friend,

We have all been there, done something we are not proud of and some how escaped the punishment we deserved for doing it. We have all been here, been persecuted for something we have not done. Did you ever notice when you are facing affliction that you begin to think about all the bad things you have done? Well, most of us do, and it all stems back from realizing that we have gotten away with something. The truth is, we never get away with the things we have done, our past will always catch up to us, especially if we have not repented of it. The good news is that as Christians we know that God is faithful to forgive us of our most treacherous deeds, and not only that, turn it into something good. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” - Proverbs 28:13.

When Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery and deceived their father into believing he was dead, they never thought they would see him again. Now, with one brother in jail and the others being told not to return until they bring their youngest brother, they could not help, but fear that it was all repercussions of what they did yo him. Running out of food, Judah convinces their father to let them return to Egypt with Benjamin, when they arrived they got a huge surprise, Joseph greeted them kindly and treated them to lunch.

And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph's house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses. And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them. And the man brought the men into Joseph's house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender. And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there. And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth. And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another. And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.” - Genesis 43:18,23-26,33,34.

And they drank, and were merry with him.” What is the best way to avenge our adversaries? Be nice to them. It is the guilt of the past that haunts us, unless we confront and repent of it it will always be the first thing we think of when we are facing affliction. Always remember that chastening is used to bring us closer to God and prepare us for something He has waiting for us. We are to be a testimony of God's mercy, grace, and love as well as His just judgment. “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.” - 1 Peter 4:12,13,16.

After the feast they thought their fears were over only Joseph set them up by placing his silver drinking cup in Benjamin's sack as if he took it and sent the guards them. Joseph tells them that Benjamin must remain there a servant, but Judah pleads with Joseph to let him go.

And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth. And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken. And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good? And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph's house; for he was yet there: and they fell before him on the ground. And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine? Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord's ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou art even as Pharaoh. Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life; It shall come to pass, when he seeth that the lad is not with us, that he will die: and thy servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave.” - Genesis 44:1,2,4,14,15,18,30,31.

and let not thine anger burn against thy servant:” It is fear that keeps us from admitting we have done wrong. Coming clean and admitting we have done wrong is the best option, the chastening is less severe when we confess our sins. “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” - 1 John 1:8-10.

One of the amazing things about God is that He always takes care of His children, He might wait until we realize we need Him, but He always provides us with the necessities we need. And when we get right with Him, there is nothing He will not do for us. We must realize that even if we do wrong, God can turn it into something good. Joseph could not take it anymore, he reveals to them who he is.

And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence. And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.” - Genesis 45:3-8.

for God did send me before you to preserve life.” Can you imagine the look on their faces and what fear they had after realizing he was telling the truth? Yet, Joseph was not angry, he did rub it in their faces that they bowed down to him as in his dreams, he simply told them to forgive themselves, assuring them that it was God's plan all along. There is truly nothing to fear when we are facing affliction, God is always in control, we do not need to be afraid to go forward, we just need to put your trust in Him and He will take care of the rest, regardless of our past. Being saved does not mean we will never sin or face chastening for past sins, it does mean that God is faithful to us, and will turn our bad into good when we come to Him. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.” - Proverbs 3:5-7.

Today's Prayer: God, How thankful are we that You are not only merciful, but loving and forgiving too. No matter how many times we mess up we are forgiven, and the only thing we need to do to get right with You is confess our sins to You. Lord, Help us to come to You no matter what we have done, give us peace from our past and let us just find freedom from any guilt or shame by coming to You and just acknowledging that we need and love You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina

Genesis: Never Give Up

KJB Daily Devotion – Following Jesus Through Every Chapter
Date: Thursday, January 14, 2015
Chapters: Genesis 40-42
Message: Genesis: Never Give Up

Hello My Friend,

Christian or not, we all have struggles in the life we are given, and sometimes it seems the harder we try to overcome them the more we get. Those without Christ do not have the luxury of finding comfort in the Saviour, they turn to things like sex, drugs, and alcohol to figure things out, only to make things worse. Even those with Christ can fall into these traps, but no matter what we have done or what we have been through we can find comfort in Christ, He is the one who pushes us to never give up, He is the one who is our strength to get through our most difficult struggles. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30.

At times it seems as though we face one struggle after another and when that happens we can become discouraged, depressed, even wondering where God is, and why He is allowing all this. I am sure that Joseph had some ups and down while he was a slave and now in prison for a crime he did not commit, but he never gave up on his situation changing, as he always saw God's hand in everything. Even in prison, he managed to make the best of things, and encouraged the other prisoners as well, including two men who had disturbing dreams. He interpreted the dreams through God's help, asking the butler to tell Pharaoh about him being in there when he is released and restored his job.

And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad. And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day? And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you. And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days: Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler. But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house: For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon. Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.” - Genesis 40:6-8,12-15,23.

Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?” We may not always like the situations we are in, but we can keep our spirits up, and really the only one who can help us do that is Jesus, He is our strength to get through the most trying circumstances. “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” - Philippians 4:11-13.

As Christ strengthens us and we continue to make the best of our situations sooner or later we will find an end to our struggles. After spending two more years in prison, the butler finally remembered Joseph only after Pharaoh had some disturbing dreams himself and was looking for someone to interpret them. Now, here is Joseph, cleaned up, and standing before Pharaoh himself to tell him what his dreams meant, and he was not ashamed to say that God was the one who told him what they meant. After he interprets the dreams, Pharaoh is so impressed, that he not only released him from prison, he made him governor in the land, and put him in charge of making sure that there was enough food to withstand the famine that was bout to come.

And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.” - Genesis 41:39-45.

And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah;” The name Pharaoh gave him has two meanings, in Hebrew it means, revealer of a secret, in Coptic it means, preserver of the age. God used Joseph to preserve life not only throughout Egypt, but even nations surrounding them, including Canaan. While we are in the storms of life, it can be hard to see it coming to an end, but there is always and pretty wonderful end when we trust God. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” - Jeremiah 29:11-13.

We must also realize that no sin goes unpunished, and while we who receive Christ as our Saviour are forgiven, we are still subject to the consequences of our sins if we have not repented of them. When Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery years ago they never really got over what they had done, perhaps they moved on with their lives, but the thought of him showing up somehow always crossed their minds. That time was about to come as the famine in Egypt grew as far as Canaan. Jacob sent all of his sons, except for Benjamin, to Egypt to buy food.

And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food. And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him. And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come. And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come. We are all one man's sons; we are true men, thy servants are no spies. And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us. And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required. And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter.” - Genesis 42:7-11,21-23.

We are verily guilty concerning our brother,” Joseph's brothers never got over what they did to their brother as well as their father, but now realize that the trouble they were facing for no reason at all was the result of what they had done thirteen years ago. This is a reminder that everything we do comes back to us whether it be for good or bad, no matter how long it takes. If you are struggling with something, first, think about what is going on. Is Christ your Saviour? Have you gotten away from God? Have you been faithful to God? If the answer is no to any of these questions, it's time to seek Christ, and get right with God. If the answer is yes, keep your head up, do not give up, trust in God, know that He is with you, understand that He has great things in store for you, and there is an end to your struggle. “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.” - 1 Peter 4:12,13.

Today's Prayer: God, We may not always see You working in our lives or that Your presence is even with us, but that is when You are preparing us for something great. Lord, be with me, when I am discouraged and have no clue what's going on, lift up my spirit, help me to never give up, remind me that You are using me for something great, and will reveal it when the time is right. You are my strength and guide, without You, I feel dead inside, give me vision to see what is ahead, and let me never lose sight of what You have waiting for me at the end of all my struggles. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina

Genesis: God Still Has A Purpose For You

KJB Daily Devotion – Following Jesus Through Every Chapter
Date: Wednesday, January 13, 2016
Chapters: Genesis 37-39
Message: Genesis: God Still Has A Purpose For You

Hello My Friend,

Christians are not perfect, we mess up just as much as everyone else, but the difference between us and those who live in the world is our willingness to be used of God, even if we do not understand His purpose. I will tell you that I met a guy, he is saved, but I call him a babe in Christ because he has a lot to learn about God. For the life of me I cannot understand why we are still talking, but as I think about the way God uses us in many ways, I do understand that He is using me to show Him through me in this strange text relationship. You see, we are not perfect, but we are needed, and God will use us in many ways to reach His people, and bring others to Him as well. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” - 1 Peter 5:6.

The events that take place in our lives, good or bad, often play a great part in the successes or failures in not only our future, but others as well. God always has a plan and a purpose for everything that goes on in the world, He will use anyone for the sake of proving who He is, and we are peculiar people in the world, even in the midst of our own families. Joseph had eleven brothers, all except one, Ben, were half brothers, and while they were all well aware of God, not all of them followed Him. Joseph was unlike them, and they knew it, for that reason they despised him, even conspiring to have him killed, but God had other plans, he used Judah, who would soon have his own problems, to encourage them to sell him into slavery instead.

And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content. Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes. And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go? And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's coat or no. And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces. And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.” - Genesis 37:26-34.

What profit is it if we slay our brother,” These men did not know it at the time, but God would use Joseph to preserve their lives and countless others. We may never understand the purpose of God's plan in the beginning, but will always find the hand of God in everything that happens to us. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” - Romans 8:28.

Interestingly, God does not need us to be good and godly for Him to use us, God had a plan for Judah as well, who by the way would be the seed from which Jesus would descend. Judah separated himself from his brothers, he dwelt in Canaan, and married a Canaanite woman, which was forbidden, he also unknowingly committed fornication and had illegitimate children with his own daughter-in-law thinking she was a prostitute.

And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep. And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife. When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face. And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt. When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff. And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more. And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.” - Genesis 38:13-15,24-27.

She hath been more righteous than I;” Judah did not know it, but God would use him to preserve his seed in not only bringing David, the apple of God's eye, into the world, but also His very own begotten Son. Even the most ungodly, and unthinkable acts can be used of God for something great. Never let your past determine your future, God is already there, and knows exactly what will come of every situation that we get into, even if it is something He did not intend for us. “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.” - Philippians 3:13-15.

God has big plans for us, we can choose to see our circumstances as opportunities to see those plans be revealed or we can choose to be depressed and do noting in hopes that something will get better. God is amazing, under the most unique circumstances He will make us prosper through them. Now, as we get back to Joseph, he had no idea what would come of him being sold as a slave, but God used it for good. He soon found favor from Potiphar, the captain of the guard who bought him, but as with all people who try to live for God no matter where He places them, he found himself in another situation. Potiphar's wife had been watching Joseph, for quite some time, she became infatuated with him and was determined to get him in bed with her.

And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.” - Genesis 39:2-4,7-10.

how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” Here is the key to enduring all the challenges we face, stand true to our faith. Joseph was not perfect, he should not have even been in there with her while no one else was there to begin with, but he would no sin against God. Perhaps the most shocking news to people, especially family and friends, we will or will not do something because it goes against God. You will not get a good response, even Christians will tell you that you are crazy. Let me tell you, you will know who your true friends are when you refuse to do something because it is against what God, but God always knows the way that we take. “Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” - Job 23:8-10. Praise God!

Today's Prayer: God, While I know I have made some mistakes in my life, You still have a plan and a purpose for everything I have done. Probably the biggest plan You had for me was in my darkest hour, when I finally chose Your Son to be a permanent figure in my life you gave me a new and prosperous life. I have had my ups and downs since then, and I know I will have more, but know it will all work together for good and for Your glory. Lord, thank You for loving me, never forsaking me, and always seeing better things of me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina

Genesis: Peculiar People

KJB Daily Devotion – Following Jesus Through Every Chapter
Date: Tuesday, January 12, 2016
Chapters: Genesis 34-36
Message: Genesis: Peculiar People

Hello My Friend,

Peculiar, To be singular; odd, extraordinary; differing from what is usual. Being one of God's people makes us extraordinary, different from the world, it separates us from those who have no regard for life except to satisfy the lusts of their flesh. If you have received Christ as your Saviour than you are peculiar, that means that you are extraordinary. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” -1 Peter 2:9,10.

Being peculiar means that you stand out from those who the world considers as normal. I have to tell you that if the world sees these corrupt lifestyles as normal than we are in for big trouble. Everything was coming together for Jacob, he made amends with Laban, Esau, and God, but all that was about to change. God instructed him to go to Bethel, but as soon as he crossed that line into Canaan, he chose to dwell in Succoth instead. Jacob's only daughter started hanging out with the people and, it was there that she met a man named Shechem and they became intimate. When Jacob found out about it he should have done something, but he chose to let it go and his sons took matters in their own hands.

And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come. And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister: And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us: But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised; And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying, These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters. Only herein will the men consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised. Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.” - Genesis 34:5,13-15,20-23.

Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours?” Jacob did not handle this properly and it caused a mess of trouble, including his sons killing these men. However, they had their own agenda for “becoming one of them”. The world can care less about God or His people, in fact, they know they get blessed because God blesses His people wherever they go. No matter how strong we think we are to the forces of this world, we are powerless without God in it. While we are to be kind and compassionate to all, we cannot join forces with them. “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” - 2 Corinthians 6:14-18.

Many times God will allow us to take that wrong path in life, He will even allow us to stay in it a while, He waits until we have gone so far before He says, “Okay, listen to me now!” Now, after all that mess, Jacob was fearing for his life once again, it was then that God spoke to him and told him to go where He told him to go in the first place.

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob. So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.” - Genesis 35:1-6.

Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean,” God will not help us or direct our paths until all the idols are put away, we are clean, and change our garments. The second we get saved we are clean of our sins and able to stand before God, but if we want to be blessed beyond our salvation, we must put away those idols and change our clothes. “Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.” - Revelation 16:15.

Even when we do get our of God's will from time to time, He is not done with us, thanks to His mercies, grace, and the promises He makes. You see, God always has a purpose for us, and even when we mess up He still uses us for it, it just takes Him longer for Him to do it. God was not done with Jacob, in fact, He blessed him, reminding him of who He is. “And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins; And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land. And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him. And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon. And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.” - Genesis 35:10-15.

and he called his name Israel.” Israel, the prince that prevails with God. God loves His people too much to allow them to be just ordinary people of the world, and if we just take time to see things the way God sees them we will find His commands are not so grievous. The life of a Christian is not always easy, and in fact, it's probably one of the hardest things we will ever endure, but keep in mind, our lives are not over once we leave this earth, even before then we will prevail with God. “For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” - 2 Corinthians 4:15-18.

Today's Prayer: God, As much as we would like to believe that the world has no power over us, it can if we walk in it without You. Lord, since we must dwell here, You must have a way for us to live here and not be conformed to it, lead us and guide us, give us Your power to remain separated from the world and not align ourselves with it. Keep us grounded in Your Word, let us not look to the right or left, but straight toward You so we can overcome the world and prevail. If we fall, love us, and guide us back to You. I love You and ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina

Genesis: Wrestling With God And Ourselves

KJB Daily Devotion – Following Jesus Through Every Chapter
Date: Monday, January 11, 2016
Chapters: Genesis 31-33
Message: Genesis: Wrestling With God And Ourselves

Hello My Friend,

We have all done things in the past that we wish we could take back, but dwelling on them and haunting ourselves over them will not change the situation. We cannot do anything about our past, but we can do something about today, and until we hand it all over to God we will never have peace with ourselves. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” - Galatians 5:1.

Jacob upon hearing that Laban's sons found out his scheme in creating well bred cattle for him, decided it was time to leave, God spoke to him and told him to head back to Canaan. He gathered his wives, children, cattle, and possessions and snuck out before anyone could find out they were gone. Three days later, Laban went after them. It was in Gilead that Jacob met with him and they settled their dispute.

Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight. And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born? Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee. If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee. The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac. Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.” - Genesis 31:42-44,50,53,54.

God is witness betwixt me and thee.” The second we believed in and accepted Jesus Christ as our Saviour we make a covenant with Jesus, one that only God is a witness to. We might say a prayer in front of people if we were led to the Lord, but only God knows if we truly believed in and received His Son as the only one who can save us from the fiery pits of hell. Once saved, always saved, we are forgiven of all our sins, past, present, and future, this is God's promise, we do not have to do anything to keep our salvation, but we must admit we have sinned and confess we are in order to be saved. “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” - Romans 10:4,9,10.

Bondage, Slavery or involuntary servitude. We may not realize it, but we hold ourselves bondage when we are hung up in the past of our sins, most of all, if we do not confess them to God. We might be saved and our sins forgiven, but if we do not come to God and repent, put them away forever, we are not going to be at peace, and to be honest, we make some unwise decisions when fear they will come back to haunt us. As Jacob headed back to Canaan he had a lot to think about, it had been over twenty years since he seen his brother. He sent messengers to Esau to let him know that he was coming only to find out that Esau was coming to meet him, with four hundred men. Fearing for his life, Jacob did the one and only thing he had not done, pray to God. Jacob was all alone when he began to pray, it was then that he wrestles with man.

And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee: I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands. Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.” - Genesis 32:9-11,24-28.

I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies,” We must come to the knowledge that we are a sinner and humble ourselves before God if we want to be set free from our past sins. Do you think that God does not know what we have done or that we have a past? Of course, He does, He just wants us to admit we have sinned and need Him, and until we do we will wrestle with Him. The punishment from sin is far less severe when we confess it than when we are confronted by someone who caught us.

When we trust Christ to save us from our sins, but repeatedly remind Him of what we have done, even after we confessed them, we wrestle with ourselves, God has already forgiven us, but we must forgive ourselves also. Still a little fearful, Jacob divided his wives, children, and flocks into two groups, reasoning that if Esau should destroy one group the remaining would escape in the opposite direction. Now, the time had come for Jacob to meet Esau face to face, and what he got was the surprise of his life.

And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept. And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant. Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves. And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves. And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord. And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.” - Genesis 33:4-8,15.

“These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.” Jacob and Esau found peace and forgiveness with each other, Jacob no longer had to wrestle with his conscience, he was at peace with himself, Esau, and with God. Either we lean on God or we try to do things on our own, but until we get to the point where we realize only God can help us, we are going to be a constant battle within ourselves. God must bring us to the end of our own strength before He gives us His strength to handle our greatest fear, our past. “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” - James 4:8-10.

Today's Prayer: God, It is amazing to think that even when we mess up You are there to help us get out of our troubles. While we wrestle with our conscience and guilt of the past, give us direction, guidance, and help us to move forward, by confessing our sins to You, and standing on Your promises. Give us peace from all our distress and help us come to the end of ourselves so that You can do Your work to fulfill Your promises. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina

Genesis: You Reap What You Sow

KJB Daily Devotion – Following Jesus Through Every Chapter
Date: Sunday, January 10, 2016
Chapters: Genesis 28-30
Message: Genesis: You Reap What You Sow

Hello My Friend,

Those of us who are saved and living our lives with Christ truly understand the reason why God does not base our salvation on our works. If God left it up to works there would be no one left because no matter how good we try to be we only go as far as our human understanding can comprehend. On top of that, we have this flesh that desires things and can do some crazy things sometimes to get them, even if our eyes are on God. We must realize that nothing good ever comes out of seeking to only please our flesh, even if we are saved we will reap whatever we sow from our flesh. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” - Galatians 6:7-9.

I like many others had the mentality that as long as I was treated people right and obeyed the laws I was doing were good. I will admit that I lived with a man before I dedicated my life to Christ and thought that as long as we were committed to each other, didn't lie or cheat on each other that I was doing the right thing. Of course, after I learned what salvation was truly about and got in the Bible I discovered that I was living in sin the entire time we were together. We live, we learn, and by the mercies and grace of God we are not given the punishment we truly deserve. Now, after Jacob deceived his father and Esau vowed to kill him after their parents died you can imagine he was not very happy about himself. He took the advice of his parents and headed to his uncle's house, Rebekah's brother Laban. While on his way he rested and had the strangest dream of his life.

And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:” - Genesis 28:12-25,20,21.

then shall the LORD be my God:” After years of his father's guidance about God, Jacob finally heard from Him, and realized that He was directing his path. We can all get diverted in other directions sometimes, but that does not mean God has walked away from us. We might have to suffer a bit for the things we have done unknowingly wrong, but He is never too far from us, and when the time is right He will reveal Himself. “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD. The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death. Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:” - Psalms 118:17-19.

When we do things to satisfy the lusts of our flesh, we really do reap what we sow. I know God chastened me for my living in sin, but I learned some amazing things about God and gotten blessed tremendously after I endured my chastening. You see, God loves even if we do sin whether intentionally or ignorantly, but it is still sin so we will be accountable for our actions, even if we didn't realize what we did was wrong. Jacob arrived in town and shortly after met Rachel, one of Laban's daughters he was so in love with her that he agreed to serve Laban for seven years to make her his wife. Little did he realize that he would be deceived himself.

And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her. And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her. And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid. And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me? And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years. And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.” - Genesis 29:16,20.23-28.

What is this thou hast done unto me?” When Jacob deceived his dad he was blind, it wasn't until Esau returned that he found out that he had been deceived. The same thing was kind of done to Jacob, I use to wonder how he could not have known that it what Leah, but in ancient times the wife to be was covered with a veil before they were to be married. Laban made sure it was dark before he let Jacob and Leah enter their tent, it took an entire night for him to realize that he was actually with Leah. The sad thing was that he worked another seven years in order to have Rachel for his wife. In most cases, God will not chasten us with physical punishment, He gets to our heart so that we learn to have a heart for Him, and he does it subtly also. “The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” - Proverbs 16:1-3.

Do not think that those who influenced us to sin are off the hook, they too will be accountable for their actions. Once God is done chastening us, with whoever He chooses to use, and we have learned our lesson, He will do the same to them. Leah was not innocent when she deceived Jacob into believing she was Rachel, and would find herself facing some consequences for her actions. A battle of affection grew between the two sisters as Jacob never could find it in his heart to love Leah as he did Rachel. Because of this, God blessed Leah with many sons, which brought jealousy and unwise decisions by both of them to win his affection.

And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb? And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her. When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife. And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night. And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach: And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.” - Genesis 30:1-3,9,16,22-24.

And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel:” Poor Jacob, he not only had one wife to deal with, he had four all in an attempt to win his affection. However, God used this twisted love triangle to give Jacob twelve sons. I am so glad that God changed marriage to between one man and one woman because there is pure jealousy between a woman and her man toward any other woman that come close to him. Everything we do today becomes the path for the things we receive tomorrow and while we may not even receive any chastening for what we do right now, we will surely reap what we sow in other ways. God will always give us a chance to make a u-turn before we go down a wrong path, but if we continue and do it anyway, we only have ourselves to blame for the consequences we reap. “The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all. A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life. He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.” - Proverbs 22:2-4,16.

Today's Prayer: God, You know the path that I take, and while I know that You have a windy and crooked road for me sometimes, Your strength and guidance will help me get to where You want be to be. Lord, lead me and guide me, help me to know the path that You want for me and let me get through every trial and error I make along the way. Give me Your wisdom to know the direction You want me to take, the motivation, and willingness to keep going until You get me there. In the end, I know that no matter where You take me, my final destination will be with You, and I thank You for that great sacrifice that blessed my life completely. In Jesus' name, Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
