God's Commands

Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;..Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy...Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.” - Exodus 20:2-5,7,8,12-17. God's commands are simple, they keep us living a moral, decent life and while God gives many commands, the first ten are important to live by. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior than you have been brought out of the bondage of Satan, you are no longer bound to his chains. Christ has set you free! How hard is it to make a little effort to show Him some gratitude for saving your life, for keeping you out of hell? “What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid...What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” - Romans 6:15,21-23. The Sabbath day commemorates a finished creation, the seventh day of the week was a day of legal obligation. Some religions have church services on the Sabbath, which is a Saturday. Many have corrupted the Sabbath day and every one of God's commands by adding other rules to them. I use to think that the Sabbath was a day of rest, which it is, but it is a day of rest from our daily labors, not from serving God, serving God is daily. Jesus Christ is Lord of the Sabbath day, giving us the true example of the acceptable use of that day, spending it with and for God. He gives us some understanding of the Sabbath and how we are to keep it holy. “And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other. Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.” - Matthew 12:10-14. God gives us commands not to keep us from doing what we want to do or to deprive us of things, He gives them to protect us and keep us from suffering more than we have to. While many of the laws that were for the Jews are no longer a factor for us today, they are all a good reminder that everything we do needs to be done in a godly way, from the things we see, to the things we hear, to the things we put in our bodies, all things need to be done in a godly manner. People who reject God, who are out to destroy the name of Jesus, and or change God's laws do so because they are living wicked, immoral lives and can I tell you, those who change God's laws to be more complicated then they are are living a more wicked life than someone who rejects God. “But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;..Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:..While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.” - II Peter 2:12,14,19-21. I can not stress enough how important it is for all to realize that religion is the biggest downfall of Christianity and will be what destroys the world. Religion goes well beyond Christianity, religious leaders create their own rules, books, and even gods, those who create occults and even evolution is a religion. Many so called Christian religions also make up their own rules rather than do what the Bible says. Oh, they read a little bit of Scripture to deceive the people, but have no idea what it means to be a Christian, in fact, religion is what actually led to Jesus being crucified. We must fact the fact the we are going to face opposition from Satan because we follow Christ, but it is a good thing because we are now family with Christ. Jesus gives this assurance as He was talking to a group of people. “While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” - Matthew 12:46-50. All who believe in and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior become family with Jesus and are a part of God's Kingdom. “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” - I Corinthians 6:9-11. Today's Prayer: Dear God, Lord, I want to hide Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You. It is my Guiding Light to help me live by faith and triumph over Satan's tactics to get me away from serving You. Help me forsake Satan's temptations with Scripture just as Jesus did during the wilderness temptations. I may be weak, but Your Word is powerful to fight off the temptation to sin and to reassure me that You are with me even when others may forsake me. As a sign of my love for You I will obey Your commands and heed Your instruction. I can do this because I know that Christ, who lives in me gives me the strength to do so. In Jesus' name. Amen.
