Profane And Vain Babbling

King James Daily Bible Study Devotional Message Title: Profane And Vain Babbling Date: Monday October 10, 2011 Chapters: Matthew Chapters 23-24 Click Here to Read Them or Go to: http://imfollowingjesus.com/bible-october-10 Hello My Friend/Guest, “It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” - II Timothy 2:11-16. I do not know how many times I got saved before I really knew what that meant. I think every time I watched some religious show on tv or went to church I asked God to forgive me and asked Jesus to come into my heart. The truth is you can only get saved once, meaning Jesus only died once, therefore, we only have to ask Him once to save us. “For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” -Hebrews 9:26-28. Of course, I would have known that if I had been taught the truth. I, like many others, gave into the profane (false) and vain (worthless) babbling of those who changed the Word of God to meet their own needs and deceived us into thinking it was truth. My error was that instead of studying the Word of God myself I let others tell me what it said and guess what? I increased in more ungodliness. It was not until I found a New Testament, Gospel preaching, Bible believing, Christ centered church, that I discovered the truth and began to understand. Jesus constantly warned people not to give into profane and vain babbling, citing that they portray themselves as godly and righteous, but are masters of disguise. “Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,..But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.” - Matthew 23:1-5,11-13. What Jesus is saying here is that we are to listen to men of God, but take notice of what we are hearing, if it does not line up with God's laws, back away, do not try to confront them or argue with them, but never let their doctrine have rule over you. The only doctrine we are to follow is the one out of the Word of God, many religions add ridiculous rules to His law or take away important truths that we need that literally send people to hell. A true man of God, is a servant, meaning he serves God by ministering to others, making sure they know the truth, even if it is something that will convict you, and they are humble, giving God the glory of all. “Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather. For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant. Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.” - I Corinthians 7:21-23. You know what the amazing thing is, that Christ even gives those who are profane and vain babblers a chance to learn the truth and repent. Jesus explains this further, “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.” - Matthew 23:25-28. How do you cleanse the inside first? Receive Christ, learn the truth, and start living in it. “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin...If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” - I John 1:6,7,9. We are going to run into a lot of profane and vain babblers in our lives, the key to overcoming them is through Christ and reading Scripture ourselves. If you have not noticed in the past few years we have had some major storms, natural disasters, and fighting one war after another and this is in every country. Jesus warns us of these things, including the destruction of every false church and profane and vain babbler. He also assures His believers that they will “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows...But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” - Matthew 24:4-8,13. Are we going to know everything that God wants us to know all at once? No! Are we going to mess up? Yes! Will God forsake us and leave us hanging? No! Are we going to fall? Yes! Will God pick us back up? Yes! God does not expect you to do a 180° turn instantly, it takes a lifetime to know everything that God wants us to know and we still will not know some things until we get to heaven. However, what God does expect is trust, faith, and a willingness to learn and follow His truths, not what some profane and vain babbler has told you. Let me tell you, that everything I write about God's Word is backed up by Scripture from the King James Bible, but I am not perfect, and while I do my best not to mess up, I am going to mess up. However, the more I read His Word the more He reveals to me and likewise to anyone who is willing to study His Word. Don't take my word for it, takes His, I am merely a messenger, God does the rest if you let Him teach You His truths. “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” - II Timothy 3:12-17. Today's Prayer: Dear God, Lord, I know I am not perfect, I know that I am going to mess up, even trying to do Your will, but I also know that You are always with me to pick me up and dust me off. I don't even have to try and do it over again because You teach me to do things a different way. God, grow me as I read Your Word, teach me, and help me understand what You are tying to tell me. Let me not be deceived by those trying to get me to believe their lies over Your truths. Let me be a witness and serve You faithfully. In Jesus' name. Amen.
