Message Title: Separation From The Rebellious
Date: Monday February 13, 2012Today's Chapters: Numbers 16-18
Hello My Friend,
The word rebellion means an open, organized, and armed resistance to one's government or ruler, a resistance to or defiance of any authority, control, or tradition. Most often people who rebel against God rebel against any form of authority. The worse thing is that they do not keep it to themselves, they are usually obnoxious, loud, and seem to attract every other obnoxious and loud person as well. While we all have a little bit of rebellion in us from time to time, there is a big difference when there is a complete resistance to God's Law, which causes them and everyone who follows them to suffer, and those who stand by God's Law no matter what obstacles they face. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” - Isaiah 1:18-20.
News of the eldest Jews not being able to go into the promised land did not go so well, Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, who were Levites, decided to gather a group of people together to challenge these laws. They cornered Moses and Aaron, accused them of being the ones who caused all these things to happen and took it upon themselves to be the ones in authority of the congregation. While Korah and his accomplices contend for the priesthood against Aaron, Moses pleads with God to save the lives of the people. “And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation? And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.” - Numbers 16:20-24.
God complies, but He commanded the congregation to separate themselves from them for His judgment was upon all who rebelled against Him. As soon as Moses had spoken to the congregation, God caused the earth to open and swallow all the rebels, including the ones who followed Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, and everything that belonged to them.
“And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind. If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me. But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.” - Numbers 16:28-33.
This is an example of false religion, people who go against God's commands to serve Him on their own terms, only to find themselves cast straight into hell for their rebellion. The sad thing is they deceive people into believing their lies and drag them into the pit with them. It does not matter if we accept false religion out of ignorance, the same judgment applies to all, we are all presented with the opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior at least once in our lives, He is the only one who can save us from being cast into the pit. “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” - Revelation 21:8.
Just as Moses pleaded with God time and time again to save those who did not rebel against Him, Jesus pleads with God to save those who believe in Him and accept Him into their lives. While we would be quick to send our enemies to hell God does not want to send anyone to hell, His desire is that all repent of their rebellion and be saved from that fiery death, but He will not save anyone who does not want to be saved. “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,..The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” - 2 Peter 3:3,9,10.
If rebels are going to cause the righteous to sin God will separate them, sometimes He is subtle, but most of the time He is going to let the whole congregation know that unbelievers are not welcome in His Church. God not only separates the rebels from the righteous He also rewards those who believe in and follow Him no matter what obstacles they faced. God reconfirmed the covenant that He made with the Levites, they would be the ones who would do the service of His ministry and all the rest of the tribes would give to them accordingly. “And the LORD said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy father's house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary: and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood. And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the tabernacle of witness...And ye shall eat it in every place, ye and your households: for it is your reward for your service in the tabernacle of the congregation.” - Numbers 18:1,2,31.
God always rewards those who diligently seek and serve Him, we do not have to give into the rebellious instigators, God is always with us, even if we have to live amongst them, and He will always take care of His people. The most important thing anyone can do to overcome those who try to get us to rebel against God is to keep our eyes on Him, stay in His Word, study it, and apply it daily to our lives. “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” -2 Timothy 2:12-16.

Today's Prayer: God, At times we can foolish, unruly, and rebellious people, we need Your guidance and enduring patience constantly to even get through the day. Through Your Word You teach us what is good and nourishes our soul and that which is destructive, bringing us down and others along with us. We invite the work of Your Holy Spirit to cleanse our soul and create a hunger that gives us spiritual cravings for more of You and obedience to Your Word as we study it to be approved unto You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
