I Am Free!

Today is Tuesday January 19, 2010 and we are reading through the Bible in a year. Today's message comes from the reading of the Book of Exodus chapters 5-7. As we grow in our walk with Christ, the things of the world seem a little less important, so much so that they will sacrifice the things of the world in order follow God's will. Of course, the world does not understand why we would give up everything for someone we can not even see, yet amongst them all are a few of God's children just waiting for the right person to show them the true meaning of life and help them understand that Jesus is the truth, the life, and the only way to live. That is why it is so important that all of us Christian's stand firm in our beliefs no matter now many people amongst us try to stop us from fulfilling the will of God.

An example of this can be found in today's reading of Exodus, the Israelite's sold themselves into slavery and for four hundred years they were servants to Egypt, the more they grew in number the more Pharaoh afflicted them. God heard their pain, remembered the covenant that He had with them, and decided that it was time for them to be set free. God chose Moses and his brother Aaron to go before Pharaoh and plead with him to let the people go and worship God. “And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go. And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword. And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.” - Exodus 5:1-4. Now, Pharaoh thought himself to be a god so when Moses and Aaron asked them to let the Israelite's go worship God he afflicted them even more, saying I do not know who this God is, if they have time to worship God they need more work to do. The truth is, he knew that God was true as real as he was, but he was not about to let the people have anytime to worship Him. Do you know why? Because he knew that once the people found out who God truly was he would be powerless against the people and would no longer be able to control them. I have a brother that worked for a company that was open on Sunday's, he was hired knowing that he would have Sunday's off to worship. A few months later a new manager came in and did not like that he was allowed Sunday's off. This man gave him such a hard time that he actually threatened his job if he did not work a Sunday, one day when pushed to the limit, my brother walked off that job, he did not know what was going to happen next, but he knew God was with him and would show him what to do. Today, he is working for a man who is not a Christian, but is slowly changing the way he does business, the week that he got hired the man started closing on Sunday's. You see, Christian's actually have a lot of power over the people of the world, yet they are not forceful, just faithful to God and sooner or later will be blessed for it to the point that they truly realize that God is real and just as alive as you and I.

Now, the amazing thing about the flesh is that even though we have faith and believe in God we still can not understand the things that we go through, so, when we are afflicted the first thing we do is get angry with God, such as the case with Moses. The Israelite's went to Moses complaining that things were getting worse instead of better since he talked to Pharaoh, so Moses questioned God. “And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us. And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, LORD, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.” - Exodus 5:20-23. Whenever God is ready to do something through us for others, there often is a affliction before there are rewards, yet they are all blessings from God. We can not truly be satisfied with the reward if we have not worked at receiving it. Think about it, if things are just given to you are you as excited about receiving them as you are when you receive them after working so hard to get them? If God had just let the Israelite's go free do you think that they would realize that God was with them? No, because in order for us to realize that “THIS CAME FROM GOD” we have to endure some affliction. When Moses cried out: Why, Lord?, God first reminded him of who He was. “And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers. And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant. Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.” - Exodus 6:2-8. God said, “I am the LORD” meaning I am the only Self-Existent God and the One who knows what is best for you. I am altogether sufficient to meet your needs. I have made you my people and I will free you from slavery. You know, God has freed us from slavery even today. Once we accept Jesus into our lives, we are free. We are no longer held captive to Satan and sin. Praise God!
