Message Title: When God Makes A Move
Date: Tuesday March 27, 2012Today's Chapters: 1 Samuel 19-21
Hello My Friend,
We all face difficulties in life, some seem to be more significant than others, and as Christians, we are often found with a dilemma, ask God what to do or make own decision. Whenever we resort to our own reasoning, no matter what difficulties we face, we bring about more difficulties, but if we trust God and look to Him to make the right decisions for us He will send us on the right path. However, He will even make use of our mistakes if we just admit we need His help. Remember, God will not push Himself on us, even when we are saved, He waits until we come to Him before He makes a move. Then, when we come to Him, He will intercede. “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?.. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” -Romans 8:34,35,37.
Immediately after David's marriage to Saul's daughter, Michal, we find his troubles coming upon him faster than ever and Saul's hatred toward him was the cause of it all. Saul was so envious and jealous of David that the only solution he had to overcome it was to kill him, he even resorted to commanding his son, Jonathan to kill him. Jonathan was a soul brother to David, urging his father not to kill the man that with the power of God brought salvation to Israel. However, Saul was still determined to kill David, some way, some how, he was going to see David to his death.
“And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good: For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause? And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain...And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand. And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.” - 1 Samuel 19:4-6,9,10.
The evil spirit from God was Satan, not God Himself, Satan was an angel created by God, known as Lucifer, who got cast out of heaven when he tried to succeed God. “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” - Isiah 14:12-14. God cannot and will not produce evil Himself, He will allow evil and even allow Satan to act upon the evil, but we cause evil all on our own through envy, jealousy, greed, lust, hatred, to name a few. Bad things happen to everyone, but our actions on how we handle these things determines what our future holds. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” - 1 Corinthians 10:13.
David, having several times narrowly escaped Saul's fury, begins to consider at last whether it may not be necessary for him to retire into the country and to take up arms in his own defense, but he consults his faithful friend Jonathan first. “And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field. And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee; The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father. And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not: But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.” - 1 Samuel 20:11-15.
Jonathan faithfully promises that he would let David know how he found his father affected towards him. It will be kindness to ourselves and to ours, to secure an interest in those whom God favors, and to make His friends ours. True friendship rests on a firm basis, and is able to silence ambition, self-love, and undue regard for others. Our true friend, Jesus Christ, is truly a soul brother to those who believe in Him, but who can fully understand the love of Jesus, who gave Himself as a sacrifice for rebellious, polluted sinners. How great then ought to be the force and effects of our love to Him, to His cause, and His people! “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.” - 1 Timothy 1:15,16.
David finds no relief in Saul, all efforts to seek help from Jonathan, Michal, and Samuel are exhausted and his only hope for survival is leave. He finds himself in Nob, where the tabernacle resided at the time, however, David told Ahimelech a lie, which would later cause problems for the priests for it occasioned the death of the priests of the Lord. Later on he regretted his decision on how he handled that situation. “Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?..Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul. And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste. And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me. And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.” - 1 Samuel 21:1,7-10.
It is of a great comfort in a day of trouble, that we have the living God to go to, One who we may open our cases to, and from whom we may ask and expect direction. What shall we say to this? Scripture does not conceal David's own reasoning, God wants us to see that even the strongest person in their faith can make some wrong decisions based on our own reasoning. Every fault and error recorded in the Bible from faithful men of God is given to us as examples and to show us that we can overcome even through our own reasoning. “Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” - 1 Corinthians 10:6-11.
Today's Psalm: 27:8 - ”When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.”

Today's Proverb: 8:17 - “ I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”
Today's Prayer: God, I know I have made some wrong decisions in life based on my circumstances and the best way I knew how to handle them at the time. You have proved to me time and time again that decisions based on my own reasoning always leave me with more difficulties and more wrong decisions. However, Your mercy and grace endures and always gives me an out when I come to You, it's not easy, but at least I know I finally see the light. When I am in complete dependance on You I know everything will turn out for good. Lord, just keep me looking toward You, keep it in my mind to always ask You to make every decision for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
