Today's Chapters: Matthew 21-22
Message Title: Only One Way
Hello My Friend,
If you died today, do you know for sure that you would be in heaven? The number one answer when asked this question, “Yes, I have been good.” While there are a lot of wicked people out there, most of the people in the world are good natured. Unfortunately, being good has nothing to do with us getting to heaven. Why? Sin. Sin separates us from God. If you think of getting to heaven as a scale that jumps up your chances every time you do something good, think again. Even telling one little white lie, will reset the scale and you would have to start all over again.This is why no amount of good that we can ever do will get us to heaven, we just cannot measure up to God's goodness. There is only one way, Jesus Christ. “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:” - Romans 3:10,11,23,24.
The time had come for Jesus to come into Jerusalem, as He entered the city, people shouted and praised Him. “And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?” - Matthew 21:9-11,14-16.
The Hebrews meaning of the word Hosanna means, save, I beg you, it's an exclamation of praise to God for His blessings. In this case, they were shouting praises to God in sending the one who would save them from their sins. It was a common thing among the Jews for the children to yell out public acclamations to hail their celebrated rabbis, but the chief priests and scribes were not very happy at their shouting this to the one person they despised and hated.Many will reject Jesus simply because they refuse to admit they too are sinners and need a Saviour. “For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” - Romans 10:3,4.
The chief priests and scribes, along with the Pharisees, were always the ones to be worshiped and praised, being that they people looked to them as the ones who knew God. The truth is that they were the ones who were the frauds, so, naturally they did everything they could to try and get Jesus to say or do something that would get the people to see Jesus as a fraud. Jesus quieted them down for a little while after He spoke this parable.
“But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him. And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.” - Matthew 21:28-32,45,46.
Publicans and harlots, meaning those who admit they are sinners, receive Jesus with joy, which is doing the will of the Father. On the other hand, people who think that they are all righteous, and have no sin reject Jesus, which is not the will if the Father. God does not want to see anyone end up in hell, but He will let anyone go there who will not receive His Son. It's not harsh or cruel, it's getting people, to realize they are sinners and cannot work their way to heaven. “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” - 1 Corinthians 6:9,10,20.
They were at it again, this time bringing the Sadducee's with them, it is not uncommon for those who refuse to accept Christ to convince others to side with them, but even they could not find anything to discredit Him. “But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” - Matthew 22:34-38.
No matter how many people try to discredit Jesus, they will always be put to silence. Many, many people will be witnessed to or have the opportunity to know Jesus personally as their Savior, including religious people. However, they will not be saved because they relied on their religion, works, or something else to save them. Only those who believe in and have received Jesus personally as their Saviour will be saved and join Him in heaven. “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” - Revelation 3:30. Praise God!
Today's Prayer: God, Thank You for giving us a way to have a relationship with You. Thank You for sending Your Son to save us. Now, we know that the only way to be saved and get to heavenis to admit that we are sinners, believe in Your Son, and confess that we need Him. Lord, open the hearts of those who have not done Your will to accept and receive Your Son. Use me to show them how much You love them too and do not want to see them in hell. Use me as a living sacrifice to follow Your Will in my life and to glorify You in the body that You have given me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
