Chapters: Exodus 31-33
Message: Exodus: Who Is On The LORD'S Side
Hello My Friend,
Many people proclaim to be faithful to God when things are going well, but the true test comes when He seems no where to be found. There are three things that God is looking for when He steps aside and lets us in a sense be alone for a while, 1) Faith, 2) Trust, and 3) Obedience. If we walk by faith and trust Him, we will become more obedient to Him even when we do not see Him. “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” - 2 Timothy 2:24-26.
Part of being faithful to God is doing what He calls us to do with the talents that He has given us. We all have skills and talents, He has given them to us to be used for His purpose and glory. When the time is right He will call us to fulfill the purpose He intended for them. As God winds down His long chat with Moses, He tells him who He has appointed to make the parts for the tabernacle. “See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship. And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;” - Exodus 31:2-6.
“and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom,” We can learn a lot of things, but it's not the knowledge that makes us wise, it's what we do with it. I have learned many skills, some I have to wonder why, but I do know God has a use for them somewhere. Over the years I have built websites dedicated to teaching His truths, cooked and baked for church events, watched babies, and even worked in a church office, it is not me that gets the glory for any of these things, it is God. Every time I get a job or someone praises me for things I have done, I thank God and tell them, it is nothing I have done, but everything that He has done in me. Being faithful to God is using the knowledge we are given to serve His purpose. “For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.” - Proverbs 2:6-9.
I can honestly say that I spent about three years serving God without recognizing His presence in my life, day after day I struggled with depression, temptation, and my faith. I do not know how I got through it, only that it was by the mercies and grace of God. When we do not sense the presence of God the devil uses it as a way to manipulate us, and he is good at it too. If we stop focusing on God one second we will fall, and that is exactly what happen to many of the Israelites as they were waiting for Moses to return. It had been forty days and no sight of God or Moses, they wanted a god they could see, so they forced Aaron to make them a god.
“And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.” - Exodus 32:1,7,8,26,27.
“Who is on the LORD'S side?” We are going to mess up, but being faithful to God means humbling ourselves to Him when we know we have messed up and getting back on His side. We are not perfect, our flesh has a way of doing things we are not proud of, but that is what God's mercy and grace are for. Get back up, confess your sin, and get back on the LORD'S side. “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” - James 4:8-10.
I will admit that it was only after I stopped feeling sorry for myself and started moving forward with God guiding me that I was able to feel His presence again. You see, what God was doing while He was no where to be found was showing me that what I wanted was not what He wanted for me, and I needed to get back to the purpose He had for me, which was to keep teaching His Word, and eliminate a hindrance from my life. The amazing thing is that even when we mess up God is faithful to fulfill His promises. It was time for the Israelites to pick up camp and start heading for the promised land, only this time they would not have His presence with them as before.
“And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it: And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way. And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.” - Exodus 33:1-3,12-14.17.
“and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me.” Most of our faithfulness comes from faith, In fact, God will always test our faithfulness to Him by testing our faith. He may not always stand in the midst of us because we are stiffnecked (stubborn to obeying His word), but He does not leave us alone completely. It is Jesus that goes before us. We are not always going to be in His will, but His grace is what gets us back in our grace with God. “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” - Romans 5:1-5.
Today's Prayer: God, As much as we try to be faithful to You circumstances and life seems to always put us to the test. Time and time again, You prove that even when we do not see You You are working in our lives, You are growing us and preparing us for not only the task You call us to do, but to receive the promises You have for us. I am on Your side God, I want to be in Your will, even when You seem far away. Lord, lead me and guide me, give me Your power to remain faithful at all times, You grace to get back up when I get stalled, and Your strength to keep going even when I do not see You. I ask these things in the name of Jesus, Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
