Message: Numbers: Because Ye Believed Me Not

Hello My Friend,

I worked with this guy that I had the biggest crush on when I was a teenager, he was probably the nicest guy I ever met. There was a connection between us, but neither one of us went beyond that boundary as friends. He quit his job and a couple of weeks later came in and asked me if he could take me home, I said no only to find out later on that he really did like me. Every once in a while I think back, only if I had said yes I probably would been married to him. How many times do we forfeit things because of unbelief? We just cannot believe that something can happen to us? Jesus explains how unbelief keeps us from seeing many things happen, but faith is the key to open any door of unbelief. “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” - Matthew 17:20.

Dead, useless; unprofitable, empty; vacant; lifeless. As we walk this earth and the journey we take while we have our breathe in us many things take the life out of us, but we do have a way to be resuscitated, that is Jesus Christ. He not only is the life of our very soul, He is the life of our livelihood, but the key to seeing Him work is keeping ourselves pure. While God allowed ordinary fresh water as a means to cleanse the flesh of it's impurities a special water had to be used for any person who touched a dead body, whether it was human or animal flesh, it was called the water of separation and it began with the sacrifice of a female cow.

And the priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer. Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even. And he that burneth her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even. And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it is a purification for sin. And he that gathereth the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: and it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among them, for a statute for ever. Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him.” - Numbers 19:6-10,13.

Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead,” A soul that does not have Jesus Christ in it is dead, the body is literally a walking talking dead body. Any soul that does not have Christ in them when their body dies will be cast into hell and suffer eternal death. A soul that does have Christ in it is going to come across a lot of many unsaved souls who defile us, make us unclean, they do not necessarily cause us to sin, but they do subject us to the things of the world. Jesus makes us clean by His living water, but we are to constantly wash our feet in prayer and supplication to God to cleanse us from the day to day things of the world that take the life out of us. “Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.” - John 13:10.

Now, it had been thirty-eight years since the Israelites had the chance to go into the promised land. All the adults except Moses, Aaron, Caleb, and Joshua had died and now they were allowed to head back toward Canaan. While passing through they came to Edom, but had to go another route because they would not let them pass. Now, here is the new generation complaining that there was no water for them to drink. God commands Moses to strike his rod on a rock to bring water, but Moses and Aaron both did something that caused them to forfeit their right to enter the promised land.

Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.” - Numbers 20:8-12.

Because ye believed me not,” Unbelief will causes us to lose many rewards from God. How is it that we, and we are all guilty of this, believe in Christ to be saved, but do not believe He can do far more than that? I caught myself last night saying to God that I do not want to ask Him for too much, but I was guilty of unbelief. God wants to give us things, He wants us to ask Him for everything we want, and He delights in giving them to us, but He will not if we have this attitude that He is not able to do it. We must understand that while Moses and Aaron could not go into the promised land, they did not forfeit their salvation, they just lost the reward of being able to go into Canaan. Unbelief can cause us to lose many rewards, including eternal life if we do not believe that Christ died a sinless death, was buried in a tomb, and arose three days later to give eternal life to every soul who believes in Him, but we must believe that He is capable of much more than that. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” - John 14:12-14.

As you can imagine, the Israelites were rather wearied after such a long march round the land of Edom, this time not only did they blame Moses they speak against God. Out of anger He sent fiery serpents among them and many died at the result of their unbelief. However, once they realized they sinned, God made a way for them to be saved if any more got bit. “And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.” - Numbers 21:5-9.

when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.” They had to look up to the serpent and when they did they were healed from the bite. Discontent, discouragement, and unbelief often cause us to question God's ways, we will never understand God's ways, as He always has a reason for the things He allows in our lives. The fiery serpent represents sin, sin of any kind, even unbelief, it too separates us from God. The brass serpent represents Jesus Christ, and just like anyone who looked to the brass serpent was cured, we are cured when we look to Jesus. We must have faith in Him, faith is talking yourself into believing that what God says He will do. Without faith we cannot please God, until we get some faith, we will lose out on a lot that God has to offer us. “If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” - Luke 12:28-31.

Today's Prayer: God, You are truly the One who meets all our needs. There is nothing we lack when we commit our faith and trust in You. You know what we have need of before we ask it, You are pleased when we come to You and acknowledge that You to be our provider of natural, physical, and spiritual resources. When our hearts are secure in You, we have no fear because we know that You have everything taken care of. Lord, lead us and guide us, give us Your power to keep believing when things look impossible. Increase our faith, show us Your Light when all we see is this darkness. Help us to remain faithful to You, keep our hearts open to receive Your rewards for our faithfulness, and let us not be deceived by our own unbelief. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
