Chapters: Deuteronomy 25-27
Message: Deuteronomy: Always Believe
Hello My Friend,
Believe, To be persuaded of the truth of something upon the declaration of another, or upon evidence furnished by reasons. The Bible, God's Holy Word, it was written under the inspiration of God through the Holy Spirit as He directed every person He chose to pen down His thoughts and the events He wanted to allow in His word. We do not need the Bible to be persuaded that God is real, we do not even need another person, but the Bible was given to us as a guide to know God and have a relationship with Him. Even though God chose the Jews to be the people the rest of the world would recognize as His people, He did not stop anyone from believing and choosing Him. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” - 1 John 5:13.
Abomination, Extreme hatred; detestation. While God hates all sin, some are an abomination to Him, most of them being something to do with the flesh, but every now and then we learn of something else that God has an extreme hatred over. Stones were used by the Jews to weigh things for buying and selling instead of brass or lead for their weights, as they were less liable to lose anything through rust or wear. Divers weights or measures, stones of unequal weights, the lighter to sell with, the heavier to buy with. Moses warns about divers weights.
“Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small. But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God. Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt; How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God. Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.” - Deuteronomy 25:14-19.
“thou shalt not forget it.” We are to never forget what Christ did for us, we inherit eternal life and the Kingdom of God the second we believe in Christ as receive Him as our Saviour. There is no other way to God, trying to get to Him any other way is like those divers weights, they are an abomination to Him. Life can drag us down and we can lose sight of Christ from time to time, but we must never forget that He died to save us from our sins, that He when He was buried He buried those sins, and He arose to He conquer death caused by those sins. We are saved by grace when we believe. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.” - Romans 10:9-12.
I catch myself, especially the past few months trying to mix law with grace. Now, I know I am saved by grace through my belief and acceptance of Christ as my Saviour, and nothing I do can change that. Every time I have an off day or my faith is being tried the first thing I do is think that I must be doing something wrong. You know, the Holy Spirit is our guide to what is right or wrong, but the devil is our guide to mixing law with grace, he will even try to convince us that we are not saved if we do something wrong. Can I tell you, once saved, always saved, nothing we do can change that. Of course, we can lose sight of God and get caught up in things and get caught up in sin, but He is always there to catch us. Moses reminds the Israelites that when they get into the promised land they are to never forget that they are there because God set them free from Egypt.
“And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression: And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders: And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey. And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God: And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.” - Deuteronomy 26:7-11.
“the LORD heard our voice,” We are not perfect, we mess up every day, some days more than others, some even fall away from God in the process. No matter what we have done, all we have to do is cry out to God and He will hear us. He is always faithful, He is always forgiving, and He is always there for us. Stop beating yourself up, God has already forgiven you, it is time for you to forgive you and move forward. If you believe that Christ has saved you from your sins, believe that He has forgiven you and has already forgotten what you did. God has never reminded anyone of their sins once they confessed them, and He never will because He forgot them. So, when you get those thoughts from the devil reminding you of your sin, remind him where he is going. “Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;” - Colossians 2:12-14.
God's choice in His people had nothing to do with them being better, more spiritual, or more righteous than any one else, it had to do with the promise that He made with Abraham, a man whom committed adultery with his own wife. He promised He would always bless them if they followed His commands. As Moses winds down his speech he encourages them to remain faithful to God, and gives them one last command.
“And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day. And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister: And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee. Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaister them with plaister. And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.” - Deuteronomy 27:1-4,9,10.
“this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God.” The second we believe in Christ and receive Him as our Saviour we become a person of the Lord, now and forever. Many people believe that just because they were Jews that meant they were automatically saved from hell. This is incorrect. Salvation has always been about believing and receiving, in fact, the word salvation is mentioned a hundred and fifteen times in the Old Testament to prove that all need to believe to be saved. “Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel; Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:” - Psalms 78:20-22.
Jesus Christ Revealed: Today Jesus is revealed through His stretched out hand that delivered the Israelites out of bondage to Egypt.
Today's Prayer: Jesus, It is truly amazing that no matter what I do You never leave nor forsake me. All I have to do to get You to hear me is come to You. I want Your favor upon my life and to be a witness and testimony of Your great love, even through my trials and tribulations. Lord, lead me and guide me, help me to live is a way that reflects You through me, let me not get caught up in unprofitable works, but never forget what You have done to get me where I am today. I am saved by grace through my belief in Your finished work and asking You to save me from my sins. The rest is up to You as I allow You to walk with me everywhere I go. In Your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
