1 Chronicles: Serving God
Hello
My Friend,
Serving God. There is perhaps no better
position than serving God. You do not have to work in a church to
serve God, anywhere, any activity, any job, every born again
Christian represents God wherever they go. Which is why it is
important that we present ourselves as such when we are out in the
world. And believe me, people will notice Christ in you. “I
beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world:
but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove
what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
- Romans 12:1,2.
Any godly leader will make sure that
before they leave the earth they have everything set up and prepared
for the next leader. Again, you do not have to work in a church to
serve God. David, knew his life was coming to an end, he wanted to
make sure that when he left the kingdom would still be in good hands.
He was the only reigning king to see his son take over in his steed,
he gathers Solomon, the princes, priests, and Levites to explain what
their duties would be once he left. “So when
David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over
Israel. And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the
priests and the Levites. Now the Levites were numbered from the age
of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by
man, was thirty and eight thousand. Of which, twenty and four
thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and
six thousand were officers and judges: Moreover four thousand were
porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments
which I made, said David, to praise therewith. And David divided them
into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and
Merari.” - 1 Chronicles 23:1-6.
“And
David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi,” We
have something amazing when we receive Christ as our Saviour, we
become one of His. As the body of Christ, it is Jesus who divides us
to up to serve Him where we will be needed most. Did you think that
the skills you possess are just a coincidence? Nope, every skill we
have is given personally by God to be used for His purpose. And if we
do it right, we will reap the benefits of our gifts. “And
he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists;
and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for
the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of
the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature
of the fulness of Christ:” - Ephesians 4:11-13.
Now,
there are some people that God chooses specifically for serving Him
in His church, before Jesus those duties were carried out by the
Levites, namely sons of Aaron. They were the priests and high
priests, part of their duties was to keep the tabernacle and eventual
temple light throughout the day. David divided their duties by
casting lots, a stone to see who would get what. “Now
these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron;
Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. But Nadab and Abihu died
before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and
Ithamar executed the priest's office. And David distributed them,
both Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of
Ithamar, according to their offices in their service. And there were
more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of
Ithamar; and thus were they divided. Among the sons of Eleazar there
were sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among
the sons of Ithamar according to the house of their fathers. Thus
were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for the governors of
the sanctuary, and governors of the house of God, were of the sons of
Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar.” - 1 Chronicles
24:1-5.
“according to their
offices in their service.” When we serve Jesus, no job is
too small, He uses us where we will be the most useful in the skills
that we posses. Not only were the scholars and governors honored, so
were the gatekeepers. It is not the job that Jesus gives us that is
important, it is our attitude and demeanor in how we do it that is.
It does not matter how smart we are or how many skills we have, if we
have the wrong attitude we are not going to go very far. “But
this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and
he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man
according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not
grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God
is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having
all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”
- 2 Corinthians 9:6-8.
“He which
soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly;” While this is
mainly talking about giving offerings it has a lot to do with
anything we do. David even made sure that the choir and band leaders
knew their jobs. “Moreover David and the
captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph,
and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with
psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according
to their service was: Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and
Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph,
which prophesied according to the order of the king. Of Jeduthun: the
sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and
Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who
prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD. Of
Heman: the sons of Heman; Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and
Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer,
Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth: All these were the
sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the
horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.”
- 1 Chronicles 25:1-5.
“to give
thanks and to praise the LORD.” Their job was specifically
for the service of giving praise and thanks to God. Oh, what a job,
and one that we all should jumping to take. Just this morning, I said
it to God, it was time to just have a morning of giving thanks for
all that He has done in my life. One thing in particular that gets me
going is how He changed my life. I swear I go through more struggles
as a Christian than I ever did when I lived in the world, yet I am
more blessed and have more to be thankful for than ever before. When
we learn to praise God in spite of our circumstances we will be
blessed, if not in this life, the life to come with Jesus. “Feed
the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof,
not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a
ready mind; Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being
ensamples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye
shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.” - 1
Peter 5:2-4.
Jesus Christ
Revealed: Today, Jesus is revealed through David, who set
the God’s ministry in order. Jesus had chosen each and every one of
His own to serve Him in His ministry. “Ye
have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye
should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain:
that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it
you.” - John 15:16.
Today's
Prayer: God, Thank You for the gifts you have given me,
and for using me to serve You, even when I think I am doing nothing.
You do not ask for lot, just my faithfulness and willingness to serve
You where You need me. I do not understand Your purpose for
everything You have me to do, but I do understand that there is a
reason for it, and You will never tell me to do something that goes
against Your commands. Lord, lead me and guide me, give me the
strength, wisdom, and patience to do what You call me to do. Let me
be, faithful, ready and prepared for the day You come and get me. In
Jesus’ name. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
