Have Some Humility

Message TitleHave Some Humility

Hello My Friend,

There is an evangelist, named Russel Anderson, very wealthy, but probably the most humblestman I have seen in the ministry. All my life I have never been one who cared much for riches or wealthy things. Of course, I have always wanted to be able to pay my bills without worry, and have some funds put aside for a rainy day, but to be wealthy was never my desire. Can I tell you that God desires all His children to be wealthy, not with worldly riches, but Hisriches. Believe it or not, if we humble ourselves before God, desiring the things that He wants, He will provide us with all we need, and then some. The key to seeing God bless us beyond measure is humility. By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.” - Proverbs 22:4.

Humility, it is often associated with being put to shame, as if you ran straight into a glass door for all to see, but humility is simply lowering your standards of yourself. Those who are wealthy are no better than the poorest of poor, but it is often the poor who see themselves as lower than low. Quite often, those who are wealthy think of themselves above others, especially the poor. They exalt themselves of their fortune, and literally walk around with their heads full of pride. Through a parable, Jesus teaches the importance of being humble. And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” - Luke 14:7-11.

The word bade means to invite, Jesus invites all to come to Him, rich, poor, and everything in between. In order for us to truly see Christ as who He is, we must admit that we are sinners and need Him to save us from our sins. What does He save us from? Hell, for one, but also the often self centered, meaningless, ungrateful life that we once lived. God has nothing against us being wealthy, He just does not want it to change us to the point that we too proud to admit that we need Him. “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” - 1 Timothy 6:17-19.

By the way, everything we have is a gift from God, if we think we can ignore that fact for too long we can be sure that He will take it away. And while He might take things away from us, He still welcomes us with open arms when we humble ourselves before Him. This is illustrated by Jesus though the parable of a prodigal (backsliding) son, who spent all his fortune on immoral and worldly living, but was welcomed back when he returned.
And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.” - Luke 15:17-24.

Are you saved and have gotten away from God? Think you are no longer saved or that God has cast you out? Think again. You are still saved and God loves you all the same. God is always with you, even if you forsake Him, He just stands back and waits for you to humble yourself before Him first. God will not help us if we are not willing to come to Him. “Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” - James 4:5,6.

The world loves to teach that riches solve every problem, but the truth is, it does not, it only creates more. See how much your so called friends stick around once you have none, or see what happens to people who are so desperate for to take care of their habits. Jesus teaches what true riches are through a parable of an unjust steward (butler), who had been trying to make amends after stealing from his boss.
And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” - Luke 16:9-13.

In order to see God bless us beyond measure, we must learn to get the trust of the worldly people, we are not to become them, but we are to be Christlike among them. Part of that means giving something without expecting anything in return. I watched a seminar on how to succeed in business. Do you know how the most successful companies remain successful? By giving. Ninety-eight percent of those invited to sample goods will not buy, but two percent will, it's the two percent that gets larger and increases over time, the more you give, the more you get. The same applies to what we do for God. If we humble ourselves to help others, God will increase our blessings over time, the more we do without expecting anything in return, the more we will get. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” - 1 Peter 5:6-8.

Today's PrayerGod, Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ to save me, I know that I am not perfect, I know that I am going to mess up, but I also know that You are always with me and will never forsake me. If I get in a bind all I have to do is humble myself before Youwith all my heart and I will find You right there where You have been all along. Lord, I do not want to mess up in order to find You, give me Your power to be giving to others without expecting anything in return, watch over me, guide me, and be with me in all that I do, keep me in the love of Christ, who is my only rest, strength, and hope for true riches. I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
