Message: Deuteronomy: Flee Fornication

Hello My Friend,

We who have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour are truly blessed to know the mercies of God, He received us gladly, and promises to never leave nor forsake us, no matter how many stupid things we do after we are saved. Being saved does not mean we will not face any chastening for sin, but it does mean His mercy endures. “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.” - James 5:11.

Mercy, pardoned from the punishment deserved. Believe it or not, all sin has its form of punishment, little white lies come with consequences, drinking comes with consequences, cheating comes with consequences. When you think about the law of Moses, God was well aware that it was impossible for the Israelites to follow every command, yet He was very merciful to them. Yes, He did use some people as examples if they got caught in their sin, but the majority of the time, these people did whatever they wanted and did not get punished to the fullest extent of the law. The problem with sin is that it is dirty, it defiles us. As Moses continues speaking to Israel upon entering their promised land he, warns them to keep their camp clean, pure from immoral corruption.

If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp: But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again. Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad: And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee: For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.” - Deuteronomy 23:10-14.

For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp,” God is always with us, He dwells in every believer through the Holy Spirit. I use to think that if I am doing something immoral with my body so did God, that image kept me from doing a lot of things, I even stopped eating pork. As I grow closer to God I realize something, God loves us, and while we ought to be thinking twice about what we do with our bodies, we are not under the law anymore. While God is always with us, we have a choice in what we do, if we make bad choices, we will suffer, and that is what His mercy and grace are for. “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.” - 1 Corinthians 6:12,13.

Fornication, The lewdness of unmarried persons (premarital sex); Adultery, Incest, Idolatry; forsaking God, and worshiping of idols. Perhaps the thing that God finds abominable next to following other gods are unclean acts with our bodies. Through the law, Moses gives the bill of divorcement, the only cause for divorce. “When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife. And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife; Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.” - Deuteronomy 24:1-4.

and thou shalt not cause the land to sin,” God takes acts done with our bodies very seriously. Why? It is our body, we need to take care of it or bad things will happen to it. The world has made a mockery of the body, anything goes, and this is the reason there are so many diseases out there. While we are no longer under the law, we must keep our bodies clean from immoral acts, if only to honor God. “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” - 1 Corinthians 6:18-20.

When we accept Christ as our Saviour we enter a marriage with Him, we are joined as one with Him, and nothing can separate us from Him. The Christian life may not be as glamorous as a life in the world, but it is the only life with the Almighty God in it. And it is the only life that teaches us to have respect for our bodies and treat them in a godly way. “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” - Romans 6:1-4.

Jesus Christ Revealed: Jesus is revealed when through the curse God turned into a blessing because He loved them. God loved us so much that He gave His only begotten Son to remove the curse of death and hell for every believer.

Today's Prayer: God, As we walk daily with You, our presence will make a difference in a classroom, workplace, neighborhood, in a community, and most especially in our families lives. With Your sanctifying seal upon our lives we no longer live according to the lust of our flesh, but the life of Christ who resides in us. May we see our world turned upside down as people put away evil from among them while being transformed by Christ’s redemptive power. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
